Biosphere of the Gina River catchment
The biosphere in the Gina River catchment show following characteristics:
- Natural vegetation is now scarce in the Gina River catchment. Only a few natural plant societies (especially bamboo) occur today. Primary forest can be found as relicts at few locations. These conditions can be attributed to the long settlement and cultivation history in the drainage basin.
- Today's biosphere is mainly characterised by several cultivation products such as barley, ensete, sorghum and different kinds of vegetables (Beck et al. 2004).
