Monitoring and evaluation in the Gina River catchment
One example for an indicator is given for the evaluation of the Watershed Management-project in the Gina River catchment. In order to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented measures against soil erosion the indicator “soil runoff in local streams” may be chosen. This indicator measures topsoil conservation. It assumes that a high measured quantity of soil runoff in local streams indicates a high rate of topsoil loss which is difficult to measure. Additionally, this indicator can refer to the recharge of groundwater resources. However, selection of this indicator take into consideration that the measurement of this indicator is also a complex undertaking (Bollom 1993).
