Finding books

Case 1: I am looking for a specific book

Start your search in the Primo library portal. There you will find both printed books and e-books.

>> Tip: An advanced search can help to limit the number of results and find the right book more quickly. Watch the video tutorials on the right.

This graphic shows you where in Primo you can find the information you need to find a printed book on the shelves of the Earth Sciences Library:

If the book cannot be found in Primo, there are other options:

  • Search for the book in the KOBV portal (meta-catalogue for almost all libraries in Berlin-Brandenburg). If the book is available there, you can either collect it from the owning library yourself or place an interlibrary loan order (in German).
  • Or send us a purchase suggestion.
Case 2: I am looking for books on a specific topic

A thematic search is possible in the library portal Primo as well as in literature databases.

  • In Primo you will find books that the FU University Library has purchased or licensed, as well as many Open Access publications (but not all of them!).
  • In literature databases you will also find books that are not part of the University Library's collection. The selection is therefore potentially much larger. ((If a book is neither in the University Library's collection nor in Open Access, you can usually access it via interlibrary loan (in German) or a purchase suggestion)).
