According Oweis et al. (2001) water harvesting can be defined as: “the process of concentrating precipitation through runoff and storage, for beneficial use.”
In the framework of this module the term water harvesting is understood in a more comprehensive way, as techniques which allow to collect, store, distribute and / or to increase the availability of intermittent rainfall, runoff or surface water for agricultural or domestic use (after Oweis et al. 2001, Beckers et al. 2013).
