Mars is the desert planet in our planetary system and fascinates with its huge, planet-encircling dust storms. The Martian atmospheric dust cycle is considered the key process controlling the variability of the planetary atmospheric circulation. In the framework of this research project, we aim at improving the understanding of the Martian atmospheric dust cycle. In particular, we aim at shedding light on the meteorological conditions fostering the formation of global dust storms as well as estimating their radiative impact.
