If greenhouse gas emissions cannot be reduced, climate engineering, in particular marine cloud brightening (MCB), could be a possible solution. MCB involves releasing sea salt aerosols to increase the brightness of clouds so that they reflect more sunlight. However, the underlying complex processes are not yet fully understood. The research project aims to use new approaches to investigate the effects of MCB on different spatial and temporal scales, and thus deepen our understanding of the role of clouds in the climate system.
