Call for applications from the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) for Open Science Ambassadors 2025/2026

News from May 06, 2025

Are you enthusiastic about Open Science and would like to help your colleagues to implement the topic in their everyday research? Would you like to organise events with guests from whom you and your colleagues can learn? Get involved and become an ambassador for open science at your faculty or department!

If you are a researcher with experience of open science topics and would like to spend a year helping to implement open science in your community, please apply to us with a short letter of motivation. As an ambassador for open science, you are not alone: the team and network of the Centre for Open and Responsible Research are always available to answer your questions and offer you access to training and networking events. You can also build on the experience of the Open Science Ambassadors, who have been active at nine institutions since August 2024.

Let us know in a letter of motivation (max. one page): What was the initial spark that aroused your interest in open science? Send the letter and a CV to open-science@berlin-university-alliance.de by 2 June 2025. We also welcome applications from tandems or small teams! The programme starts on 1 August 2025.

You can find initial information about the programme on our website. If you have any questions about the programme, please contact us at any time or register here for our digital application information event on 16 May 2025 from 14:00 to 15:00!

What do I do as an ambassador?

  • Train your peers! You are responsible for organising training sessions, lectures, workshops on open science topics and a regular open science consultation hour or comparable formats.
  • Connect! You will become part of a BUA-wide network in which you will exchange ideas with ambassadors from other faculties about Open Science practices and their implementation and actively try to interest fellow campaigners in this network at their institutions.
  • Share your experiences! You report on your own activities and experiences in a format of your choice (e.g. a website, blog posts).

What do I get out of it?

  • You will take part in networking events and training sessions organised by the BUA's Center for Open and Responsible Research based on your needs.
  • You will receive €4,000 in material resources for the organisation of your own events (per faculty or department for one year).
  • You will receive formal recognition and visibility as an Open Science expert at your faculty or department.
  • As an ambassador, you will contribute to the implementation of the BUA's Open Science mission statement.

What do we want from you?

  • You are doing research as a doctoral candidate, postdoc or professor at a faculty or department of a BUA partner institution with a contract until at least 31 July 2026.
  • Ideally, you will have some previous experience in the field of open science (e.g. open access publications, research data management, transdisciplinary research, open software).
