Within the framework of these seminars the following possibilities will be offered:
- Material in the form of a script, slides, exercises or videos is made available through the Blackboard course.
- In some cases there will be video conferences (see next point) to answer students' questions, discuss exercises or other material.
In principle, both smartphones or tablets (Android or iOS), as well as the classic desktop or laptop, are suitable. Loudspeaker and microphone are indispensable, preferably a headset (see below). A camera to transmit your own picture. Attention, who has a camera should always be clear about what he/she wants to transmit. For some events it can be useful to write on a virtual whiteboard. This probably works best with a tablet. The FU's favorite platform WebEx has clients for Mac OS, Windows, iOS and Android. For Linux there is a WebApp. Problems are often reported with the WebEx WebApp on Linux. The FU also has central tips for teachers and students for synchronous support.
Headset or headphones?
Helps to avoid feedback and echo. In essence, this is good for the others, because they will not hear their echo. If everyone has a headset, the quality of the video conference increases.
If you don't speak, you're muted! (Mute)
This is especially important without a headset! But it is also helpful in other ways, because the microphone on the headset also picks up background noise (birdsong, message bings from the telephone, horns, suburban trains, children, etc.). Muting works most effectively with video conferencing platforms with a "push-to-talk" function, such as Jitsi.
Ensure good lighting conditions for video transmission
If the camera is to show the face well, it must be well lit. Therefore it is recommended to sit opposite a light source (window) and NOT to have it in the back.
