At the recent “Planet Under Pressure” session on land-use and climate change at the European Space Agency's Living Planet Symposium, Lucía Zarbá  co-chaired and presented ongoing work on mapping Social-Ecological Land Systems (SELS) across the Andes. Her talk highlighted how remote sensing data, combined with participatory expert knowledge, can generate land classifications to support the ROSA observatory network.

Karla Vergara Rodriguez presented a complementary study on deforestation frontiers in the Peruvian Amazon, using archetype analysis to identify long-term spatial patterns and drivers of forest loss from 1990 to 2023. Her approach bridges ecological metrics with social dynamics to inform sustainable land-use strategies.
