Akademische*r Rat/Rätin (m/f/d) full-time job unlimited salary grade (Besoldungsgruppe) A13 reference code: Hydro-AR

Bewerbungsende: 16.02.2026

In many regions of the world, groundwater is the quantitatively most important, qualitatively best and safest drinking water resource, and therefore one of the most important georesources in the human-environment system. In the course of climate change and the increasing scarcity of water resources, the importance of groundwater will continue to increase.
At the same time, the quality of groundwater is under threat, for example from agriculture, which causes large-scale nitrate and pesticide pollution and can lead to microbial contamination. Pathogenic microorganisms and other pollutants, such as pharmaceuticals, can also enter the groundwater through human wastewater.
The hydrogeology working group's current research focuses on aspects of groundwater quality and pollutant fate, transport of dissolved and particulate substances, groundwater ecology and microbial dynamics as well as quantitative hydrogeology.

Job description:
The Akademische*r Rat/Rätin (Postdoc) will occupy an important position within the Hydrogeology working group and will be responsible for the following teaching and research tasks:
- Develop and design good teaching: You will independently conduct or substantially participate in lectures, tutorials and practical courses. You will actively support the development and design of courses and you can introduce innovative teaching methods and technologies to create an engaging learning environment for our students.
This position involves a teaching commitment, which may be in the area of hydraulic methods, geodata management, field methods or aquatic geochemistry.

- Hydrogeological laboratory: You will operate and maintain the hydrogeological laboratory and the field equipment - this also includes the supervision of laboratory staff, research assistants and students as well as quality management.

- Research and scientific collaboration: You will take part in research projects in the field of hydrogeology and can actively contribute to the development of research focus areas and projects. You will play an important role in project management and accounting.

Requirements:

- Fulfilment of the career requirements for the second entry-level position in career group 2 in the academic service career path / career branch
- university degree and doctorate in hydrogeology or a related discipline
- after completion of the university degree at least three years of scientific or technical practical activity in full-time employment

(Professional) Experience:
- Several years of experience in hydrogeological research and teaching

Desirable:
- Excellent publication record in international, peer-reviewed journals
- Experience in the development of independent research projects
- Experience in the organisation of scientific events
- Proven above-average knowledge in the analysis of water samples, in particular experience with analytical methods such as fluorometry, spectroscopy and chromatography
- Independent way of working
- A high willingness for interdisciplinary work as well as excellent written and spoken German and English skills

Your application should include the following documents as one PDF:
- Letter of motivation
- Curriculum vitae with degree certificates
- Teaching and teaching evaluations
- Exemplary concept for the course Hydraulic Methods / Pumping Tests
- Details of at least three references

Research assistant (m/f/d) Hydrogeology with 75%part-time job limited to 4 years salary grade (Entgeltgruppe) 13 TV-L FU reference code: Hydro_DA

Bewerbungsende: 13.10.2025

The doctoral position is based in the Hydrogeology Working Group at the Institute of Geological Sciences (Prof. Dr. Nadine Goeppert) at the FU Berlin. Our research focuses on groundwater quality and pollutant behavior, transport of dissolved and particulate substances, groundwater ecology and microbial dynamics, and quantitative hydrogeology.

Job description:
Methods for improving groundwater recharge in a complex and large aquifer system are in the focus of this project. The main goal is to gain a better understanding of transport processes, particularly with regard to future challenges posed by climate change. This will provide a basis for a better management and protection of this valuable but sensitive karst groundwater resource.
The focus of this work is on the quantitative interpretation of the spatial and temporal dynamics of discharge and selected water constituents. An essential part of the work will be the interpretation of time series from the various measuring points. There is the possibility of completing a PhD. In addition to your research activities, you will also be involved in teaching and supervising bachelor's and master's students.

Requirements:
University degree (MSc) in hydrogeology or an equivalent subject (e.g., geoecology, environmental sciences, water management).

Desirable:
- good background in hydrogeology with experience in geological fieldwork, hydrochemical analysis, and numerical modeling

- confident handling of big data and time series analysis methods
- good analytical and problem-solving skills, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team

- ability to collaborate with partners from other institutions and to carry out hydrogeological field work

- very good written and spoken English level C1
- valid driver's license with documented driving experience

Your application should include the following documents as one PDF: letter of motivation, CV with degree certificates, at least 2 references.

For further information, please contact Prof. Dr. Nadine Goeppert (nadine.goeppert@fu-berlin.de / 030 838 61843).
