The topics for the intercomparison of the different model radiation schemes were the shortwave and longwave radiation rates and their deviations from the reference model, the shortwave heating rates and the longwave cooling rates as vertical profiles for selected areas(Tropics, midlatitude, arctic and antarctic areas).

January is the reference month for all plots.

The plots are arranged as followed:

  • Vertical profiles of the the model shortwave heating rates, and their deviations from the reference model:

absolute deviation in K

relative deviation in %

  • Vertical profiles of the shortwave heating rates in the

north hemisphere

south hemisphere

  • Vertical profiles of the longwave cooling rates for the atmospheric gases CO2, H2O and O3

north hemisphere

south hemisphere

  • Vertical profiles of the longwave cooling rates deviations for the atmospheric gases CO2, H2O and O3

absolute deviation in K

relative deviation in %

  • Vertical profiles of the net heating rates, expressed in daily temperature difference to climatology  for the atmospheric gases CO2, H2O and O3 for selected models:

REF, CMAM, MRI-Irf and UGAMP

  • Same vertical profiles for  the atmospheric gases CO2, H2O, O3 and minor gases

CMAM and MRI

  • Vertical plots for the

longwave cooling rate in 60°N

shortwave heting rate in 45°S
