Relation between soil erosion damages and slope

Most of the damages are recorded in gently to strongly sloped areas. The correlation between the occurrence of soil erosion damages and the slope inclination of the respective location is well proven.

Relation between soil erosion damages and land use

An above-average fraction of area affected by sheet erosion occurs in areas used by mosaic cropping, cultivation of ensete and legumes and – interestingly – in woodlands  (see figure). Other types of damages do not vary in spatial distribution according to the different kind of land use (Beck et al. 2004, 40-43).
