I am a physicist who builds planets by making models of their atmospheres, interiors, and long-term evolution.

During my PhD at the University of Rostock, I studied hot Jupiters - gas giant exoplanets orbiting extremely close to their stars - focusing on how atmospheric conditions shape their interior structure and influence radius evolution. One key finding was that deep cloud layers can significantly alter the contraction of a planet’s radius. Additionally, intense irradiation makes the atmosphere behave like a plasma. This plasma, interacting with the magnetic field, may help sustain an inflated planetary radius.

Understanding how planetary interiors and atmospheres interact is key to interpreting exoplanet observations. My research refines theoretical models and supports the characterisation of planets.

At FU, I am working on characterising the planets that will be observed by the ESA PLATO mission.

Research Interests:

  • Planet formation and evolution
  • Coupled models of the interior, atmosphere and long-term evolution
  • Rocky and giant planets, hot Jupiters (but not exclusively)
