Dusty Visions - Freie Universität Berlin, May 24-26 2023

An international workshop on Cosmic Dust inside and outside the solar system to be held May 24-26 2023 at the Campus Lankwitz of the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. The workshop will be hosted by the Planetary Science group at Freie Universität Berlin.


In a workshop style we want to discuss the present state and new venues in cosmic dust research as exciting new results of past and ongoing missions stimulate new ideas and theories.

Major topics of the workshop will include interstellar dust, circumplanetary dust including dusty rings and space debris, presolar and cometary dust, plumes, dust in interplanetary space, dusty plasmas, dust in extrasolar systems as well as laboratory measurements, instrumentation and space missions. In situ and observational results, theoretical models, and the outcome of laboratory experiments will be discussed and their implications for future space missions will be highlighted.

Of special emphasis is cosmochemistry and compositional analysis of dust in view of the Cassini and Rosetta results and the upcoming Europa Clipper, Destiny+, IMAP and Comet Interceptor missions as well as potential future missions to Uranus and Enceladus.



The location Rathaus Steglitz offers good connections with U-Bahn and S-Bahn to reach other parts of Berlin. The easiest way to arrive on the campus is with the bus X83 to the stop Emmichstr. within 15min. There are quite a few hotels there including (but not limited to):

Other accommodation options are closer to campus but might be more complicated in terms of public transport. They include:

  • Pension Schultze: Located near the S-bahn station Marienfelde and 10min walk to the campus.
  • Alte Dorfaue Pension: 25min walk to the campus and 20min walk to S-Marienfelde station.
  • Hotel Landhaus Alpinia: 35min walk to the campus and 20min walk to S-Marienfelde station.
  • Hotel Miles: Located near the S-bahn station Lichterfelde Ost and 30min walk to the campus, or ~20 min with 2 buses.
