EGU 2025 Poster: Tracing Erosion on Elba Island
At EGU 2025, our PhD student Nathalia Cerón presented a poster exploring how forest loss linked to ancient metallurgical activity impacted erosion on Elba Island.
Using cosmogenic nuclides, the study reveals a significant erosion event around 837 CE, with an estimated 0.6–1.7 meters of soil loss—occurring roughly 500 years after the Roman period. The findings suggest a lasting environmental legacy of Roman-era industry.
An exciting contribution to understanding the long-term impacts of human activity on landscapes!
