Quick-Response-Research on SARS-CoV-2 (completed)

Institution:

Disaster Research Unit (DRU)

The Disaster Research Unit is responding to the current SARS-CoV-2 situation with various quick-response research and science-outreach activities: first, an analysis of quarantine facilities is being conducted with expert interviews, as well as a quantitative survey of responders. Here, the focus is on responders' experiences with this unusual situation by national standards. Secondly, since the end of March 2020, country-wide population surveys on the perception of the COVID-19 situation in Germany have been conducted at regular intervals, with the aim of gaining deeper insights into the individual experience of the study participants. To increase the gain of knowledge, quantitative and qualitative elements are combined and integrated in the surveys in the sense of a mixed-methods approach. Third, aspects of the SARS-CoV-2 situation are considered in the WAKE project, in which the involvement of civil protection in Germany, Austria and Italy is investigated in the context of this cross-border situation. Fourth, students can write their term papers on the current situation. Prof. Voss regularly offers web-based Q&A sessions in which various inputs on different topics related to Covid-19 are presented and current developments are explained. Participants also have the opportunity to ask questions. Participation is open to all interested parties. For further information a mailing list is available.

On May 26, 2021, the final workshop of the BEPAL project " Health-related Civil Protection between Disaster Management and Public Health Service - Lessons Learned?" took place virtually. About 20 participants from federal and state associations of THW, ASB, DRK, lower disaster control authorities, science, representatives of the German Society for Disaster Medicine as well as the public health service discussed which challenges the actors faced in coping with the pandemic and still face today. In particular, the interface between civil protection, public health service and lower civil protection authorities was addressed.

First analyses of the population survey on the perception of the pandemic by the population have been published: https://a-kfs.de/kfs-corona-befragung/
