New TSUNAMI_RISK Working Paper: "Disaster*Cultures – Indonesia and its Tsunami Warning System"

News from Sep 17, 2024

The KFS has published a new working paper as part of the TSUNAMI_RISK project, applying an epistemological "disaster*cultures" approach to the Indonesian context. Through the analysis of academic literature, artistic works, and discussions with local stakeholders, the paper reconstructs the socio-historical pathways through which various disaster*cultures have developed in Indonesia. Additionally, the paper provides an overview of disaster actors, policies, and practices that are currently relevant in Indonesia, particularly with regard to the Indonesian tsunami warning system. The aim is to pave the way for a more socially informed, culturally sensitive perspective, offering a comprehensive overview of the Indonesian context and facilitating the development of more socio-culturally sensitive technologies and warning systems.
