Theresa Zimmermann participated in the strategy day of the German Red Cross (GRC) on November 2nd, 2023. She presented results of the research project ATLAS-ENGAGE and discussed the results with around 60 attendees as part of a panel discussion.  In her presentation, she outlined possible effects of societal developments on civil engagement in crisis and disasters and introduced the typology of forms of engagement which was developed in the project. The typology can serve as a basis for developing strategies for dealing with and cooperating with volunteers who are active outside the civil protection authorities and organizations. Finally, she provided insights into the results of a survey conducted amongst members of relief forces and administration on points of contact with and attitudes towards so-called external volunteers. During the discussion, it was debated whether the distinction between the forms of engagement could also be helpful for other fields of work at the GRC.
