The Education Committee is formed by the Department Council in accordance with the requirements of the Berlin Higher Education Act to support the Council in educational matters. At least half of the members are students.

The tasks of the Education Committee include: acting as an advisory body on all matters relating to studies and teaching in the department (draft resolutions, statements/recommendations), participating in subprocesses of quality assurances in the area of studies and teaching, issuing statements on new programmes, revising or discontinuing degree programmes, advising on central surveys, providing support for interdisciplinary aspects of decentralised evaluations (and if necessary, identifying areas where further action is required), responsibility for ad hoc surveys and evaluations in the area of studies and teaching (with support from the studies and teaching consultant or the studies- and examination office), dealing with assignments from the Department Council and, if necessary, discussing topics and projects with the Department Council.
