Reporting procedure in case of COVID-19 infection or suspected COVID-19 infection

Students and employees of Freie Universität Berlin are obligated to report a COVID-19 infection confirmed by a PCR test to the department administration.

Procedure for students (major at FB Geo)

In general, students should not attend classes held in presence with symptoms of illness. Please also refer to Appendix 1 of the Berliner Stufenplan.

Students are obliged to report a COVID-19 infection confirmed by a PCR test to the department if they have been on campus within the two days prior to the onset of symptoms or positive test result.

Please use the online notification form to report a Covid-19 infection.

The department's CV team will identify possible contacts and generally inform them that they have had contact with a person infected with Covid-19 in the past few days and ask them to be cautious of themselves and their surroundings in the coming days. In addition, the department must make a report to the health department, which may also order a quarantine for close contacts.

If you have further questions, please feel free to contact the department administration at cv@geo.fu-berlin.de.

Procedures for employees of FB Geo

As in general, employees should not come to work with symptoms of illness. Please also refer to Appendix 1 of the Berliner Stufenplan.

Employees are also obliged to inform their superiors immediately if they become a suspected case on the basis of the definition given below (cf. § 16 (1) ArbSchG). If the suspected COVID-19 case is confirmed by a positive PCR test, the superior must report the case - without naming the employee - to the departmental administration by email to cv@geo.fu-berlin.de.

Employees who become ill should inform their contacts, who must also be reported to the health department, of their illness as soon as possible so that they can take precautions if necessary.

Suspected cases

According to the Robert Koch Institute, the most commonly cited symptoms for COVID-19 disease are:

  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Rhinitis
  • Disturbance of the sense of smell and/or taste.

For the purposes of this handling instruction, a suspected case (see also recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute) exists if you suffer from the above symptoms AND you have had contact with an ill person in the past two weeks who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 by a laboratory.

Dealing with cases of infection and suspected cases

All sections of Freie Universität Berlin report infection numbers (without reporting names) to the Department of Occupational Safety (DAS) on a weekly basis. The DAS provides a weekly summary to the CV Task Force of the FU Berlin, which decides on any necessary measures in close consultation with the university management.
