Blocking of gullies by stone or earth check dams or vegetative barriers leads to the deposition of fertile sediments and organic matter, and the collection of water during heavy rainfall events. Such gullies can be planted with a variety of crops such as annual crops, fruit trees and fodder grasses. Apart from the benefits of increased productivity, the threat of further expansion of gullies and loss of land is mitigated. (Mekdaschi & Liniger 2013)
