Early Eocene proto-monsoon turned arid central Asia into a lush forest: new paper out in Nature Geoscience

News from Feb 22, 2024

new paper out in Nature Geoscience from the Sedimentary Research Group with the title

"Proto-monsoon rainfall and greening in Central Asia due to extreme early Eocene warmth".

In the paper by Dr. Alexander Rohrmann and colleagues, they show that monsoons turned arid Central Asia into a lush forest during the PETM, an extreme global warming event 56 million years ago!

A truly multi-disciplinary effort combining fossil pollen, soils (lipid biomarkers, stable and clumped isotopes) and climate model simulations.
