Dr Vicente Sandoval (DRU) talks with the Turkish newspaper BirGün about impacts of the recent Kahramanmaras earthquake(s) in the country (6th Feb. 2023, 7.8 Mw) and disaster preparedness: how to prevent this kind of disasters? Dr Sandoval reflects some experiences from Chile (a country highlighly exposed to earthquakes like Turkey) and other places in Latin America and the Caribbean, and highlights the importance of "safety nets" provided by social welfare policies before and after a earthquake takes place.
