Mars Rover finally has a name: Perseverance
News from Mar 11, 2020
NASA's next mission, which will land a rover on Mars, is scheduled for launch between July and August this year. Engineers and scientists have spent years designing, developing and testing all the equipment that will accompany the rover. The Rover is scheduled to land on the Red Planet in February 2021, and until last week the Rover was affectionately called Mars 2020. In August last year, a nationwide naming campaign took place, inviting school children to come up with innovative names for the new Rover. This tradition has been going on for 25 years, and all Mars Rovers were given their names in this way. The naming ceremony for Mars 2020 was broadcast live on NASA television last Thursday 5 March, with the winning essay from 28,000 names submitted, winning a seventh-grader. And so Perseverance got its name.
