Although it will be years before the first humans set foot on Mars, NASA is giving the public an opportunity to send their own name to the Red Planet: with NASA´s Mars 2020 rover. The mission is scheduled to launch in July 2020, with the spacecraft expected to touch down on Mars in February 2021. The rover will collect samples, study Mars´ climate and search for past microbial life. On board, in addition to numerous scientific experiments, the rover is also going to carry microchips, which act as virtual "boarding pass".
From now until Sept. 30, 2019, everyone has the opportunity to enter his first and last name on NASA´s website and obtain a personal virtual "boarding pass" for Mars 2020. All submitted names will be etched with an electron beam onto microchips and travel in July 2020 aboard the rover to Mars!
