The Mineralogy–Petrology working group is represented in the consortium of the WSS-Resources project with the topic “Urban Mining.” The aim is to develop a more energy-efficient and resource-conserving method for extracting and separating rare earth elements from electronic waste or mining residues. Initial exploratory experiments conducted jointly with the Institute of Chemistry and Biochemistry were promising and are now being systematically optimized methodically for individual metals and metal mixtures.
