The Earth's surface is the interface between exogenic and endogenic processes and provides the foundation for life. The shape and composition of the Earth's surface are closely linked through feedbacks with water and sediment fluxes. The goal of my research is to improve our understanding of the processes that shape the Earth's surface and how they interact with human activities. I am particularly interested in recent and past environmental changes and extreme events, as well as their role in landscape evolution across a range of spatial and temporal scales. My interdisciplinary and collaborative research approach integrates remote sensing and geomorphometry, geomorphological and sedimentological fieldwork, geodesy, as well as statistical and physics-based modeling. Beyond advancing scientific knowledge, my research aims to inform land-use planning about potentially hazardous or adverse effects of Earth surface processes and to support the sustainable management of water and soil resources.
