International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2026

Celebrating our female researchers for the International Womens Day in Science

Celebrating female research members in our team!

News from Feb 10, 2026

On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Modelling Human–Environment Interactions (MHEI) Research Group highlights the work of its female researchers. Their contributions shape our research across environmental modelling, land-system science, and socio-ecological analysis, strengthening both scientific progress in the geosciences and interdisciplinary exchange within the group.

This day is a reminder of the importance of equitable participation in science and of the structural conditions that enable sustained research careers for women and girls. It should also serve as a reminder of the persistent disadvantages women face in academia, as outlined by Jun.-Prof. María Piquer Rodríguez in her publication Systemic sexism in academia: an early-career viewpoint .

Beyond reflection, the MHEI team actively promotes female participation in research through its annual involvement in Girls’ Day and through its engagement in MINToring programmes.

Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science!
