The visit to FU's map-library

News from May 12, 2026

On April 22nd, eight girls visited our team as part of Girl's Day to learn about remote sensing, deforestation, and land-use modelling, to gain inspiration for their future careers and interests.

After an introduction by Jun.-Prof. María Piquer-Rodríguez, M.Sc. Karla Vergara, and M.Sc. Monica Barcenas, the group visited the map library. Special thanks to Jonas Schramm for the excellent tour.

The day also included a geocaching treasure hunt and a hands-on GIS session, where the participants created their own digital maps and explored spatial data analysis techniques.

We were very happy to welcome the participants and share insights into environmental research and geoinformation science. We hope the day provided an interesting introduction to the many ways geographic data and spatial analysis can contribute to understanding global environmental change.
