How can I communicate my research findings in a way that resonates with my target audience? How do I organize a workshop with practitioners? What should be considered when communicating uncertainties in climate models? These and other questions are relevant for many climate scientists in their daily work. To provide tailored support in this area, the DRU is developing a toolbox within the ClimXchange project that covers the fundamentals of science communication as well as concrete methods that scientists can use to engage with practitioners. An initial version of the methodology toolbox was recently tested and evaluated in an evaluation workshop organized by the DRU in cooperation with the DWD, involving scientists from the ClimXtreme consortium. On March 17, 2026, 16 scientists gathered for this purpose at the DWD branch in Potsdam.
The workshop was designed as a win-win: Participants were introduced to the basics of science communication and gained insights into the structure of the methodology toolbox, and were able to experience, try out, and reflect on various methods themselves, ranging from Pecha Kucha and World Café to the visualization of results. The ClimXchange team at DRU (Theresa Zimmermann and Sara T. Merkes) received valuable feedback from the participants, which will now be incorporated into the revision and finalization of the methodology toolbox.
