Report on heat events in the summer of 2025 from the ClimXtreme project

News from Mar 04, 2026

The summer of 2025 was marked by heat waves across large parts of Europe – with serious consequences in some cases, including for human health. The recently published ‘Analysis of the European summer of 2025 with a focus on heat events’ classifies the European summer of 2025 in terms of heat, taking into account changes in the global climate: How extreme was the summer of 2025? What consequences did the summer have for humans and the environment? What role does anthropogenic climate change play?
The report was produced in the context of the BMFTR-funded ClimXtreme research network, in which various research institutions in Germany conduct research on extreme weather events in connection with climate change. The KFS ClimXchange sub-project investigates the conditions for successful knowledge exchange between climate research and non-scientific stakeholders.
