We received the sad news that Dennis Mileti, former director of the Natural Hazards Center, has passed away due to a COVID-19 infection.
 
Dennis Mileti achieved great prominence in the field of hazards and disasters research and beyond with his work, which was primarily focused on advancing research on the societal aspects of hazards and disasters. From 1994 to 2003, he was director of the Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado and professor in the Department of Sociology. His body of work includes more than 100 publications, including probably his best-known book, Disaster by Design.
