Courses in winter semester 2020/21

News from Oct 30, 2020

This semester, DRU researchers once again offer online seminars for students of social and cultural anthropology and the Otto Suhr Institute.

In his five seminars, Prof. Martin Voss will introduce the topics and working methods of socio-scientific crisis and catastrophe research. Together with the students, he will deal intensively with the works of Michel Foucault and Pierre Bourdieu in various formats. All courses will discuss what can be learned from each of them in relation to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

Verena Flörchinger offers the seminar "Complex dynamics in a globalized world". By means of reading assignments, students will become familiar with central terms, theories and concepts and will deal with global dynamics and their effects on social, cultural, political and ecological levels. Complex interrelationships of globalization processes will be examined and discussed using concrete case studies. Current phenomena will be drawn upon, power structures will be questioned, and the associated social inequalities will be reflected upon, in order to finally address the question of what significance this has for social and cultural anthropology.
