Since August 2019, I have been Professor of Human Geography with a focus on globalization, transformation, and gender at the Institute of Geographical Sciences at Freie Universität Berlin. My research interests lie in migration-induced social diversity and its negotiation in cities. There, I am particularly interested in comparative perspectives that I work on in inter- and transdisciplinary contexts.

From 2016 to 2019, I worked as a junior professor for Geographical Migration Research at the Institute of Geography and as a member of the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at the University of Osnabrück.

I have also worked in the Urban Geography Working Group at the Institute for Human Geography at Goethe University Frankfurt a. M., at the Ryerson Center for Immigration and Settlement (RCIS) at Ryerson University in Toronto and in the Department of Applied Geography and Spatial Planning at Humboldt University in Berlin.

In 2010, I earned my doctorate at the University of Bremen on the topic of transnational networks of Vietnamese entrepreneurs between Berlin and Vietnam.

In my research, I look at migration-induced processes from the perspective of social geography. The focus is on the urban governance of migration at different scales, from international municipal cooperation to neighbourhood-oriented measures. These include civil society organisation, the negotiation of representation, access and identity politics. I take a comparative perspective that links migration to categories of social inequality.
