Persons employed by the FU Berlin (staff, including student staff and civil servants) may borrow a vehicle from the vehicle administrators for work purposes. To do so, they must hold a driving licence that has been valid for at least two years. The licence must be presented to the vehicle administrators and the Rundschreiben H01/2013 must be acknowledged and accepted. Upon application to the department administration, members of the FU Berlin (e.g. students, adjunct professors and lecturers) may also be granted a temporary, purpose-specific special driving permit.

For the sake of completeness, it should be noted here that the Rundschreiben and the procedure described have no connection with rental vehicles. In the case of rental vehicles, it is only important to list them on the travel expense claim form for reimbursement purposes. All legal matters (e.g. who is permitted to drive) are clarified with the car hire company.

Official vehicles should be used as a first choice for excursions. Only if no suitable official vehicles are available, may reimbursement of rental vehicle fees be requested.
