Previous Research
- Planned and managed a quantitative survey of 1,575 interviewees in 7 provinces (using SPSS) and a qualitative survey involving Focus Group Discussions and Key Informant Interviews in 3 provinces for a baseline study on Improvised Explosive Devices in Afghanistan for the US Military. The information was provided to the client in a presentation format and was used to help inform a communications campaign on IEDs that is still ongoing in Afghanistan
- Planned and conducted a qualitative baseline study on Provincial Councils and Governance in 19 provinces of Afghanistan for a communications campaign for ARD and USAID. This data was used to inform ARD’s programming, which is funded by USAID.
- Planned and managed a qualitative media evaluation of the World Bank’s National Solidarity Program Public Communications Unit for the Afghan Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development in 6 provinces. Created focus group discussion guidelines, content testing workshop guidelines, and key informant interview questionnaires that have been revised for other media evaluations
- Planned and managed a qualitative media evaluation of the Afghan Ministry of Education’s Education Radio and Television of Afghanistan for UNESCO in 5 provinces.
- Conducted a market sector assessment of Afghan handicrafts for the export market for CIPE and the Afghan Women’s Business Federation in 7 provinces using qualitative tools. This research involved personally travelling to four of the seven provinces to meet producers, sellers, and buyers of such handicrafts and contacting buyers worldwide to create a database of contacts for the AWBF. One of the main recommendations of the project was that increased focus on marketing and design was needed. One year following the research, the AWBF established a design center with the assistance of AID to Artisans which has successfully helped artist cooperatives in developing countries and focuses on both design and marketing skills building
