Ulyxis Rupes is a classical albedo feature on Mars and the only named morphology in the animated scene. 'Rupes' is the Latin term for 'scarp' or 'cliff'. About two thirds of this scene, which extends over a distance of approximately 390 km, are covered by the South Pole ice cap and scattered ice deposits (see also mosaic press release).
