On December 3, 2018, the american spacecraft OSIRIS-REx reached Bennu. According to orbit calculations, the near-Earth asteroid Bennu with a diameter of about 500 m could collide with Earth in 2135. With its Touch-And-Go Sample Acquisition Mechanism (TAGSAM), OSIRIS-REx is going to sample the surface of Bennu in 2020. The sample will be brought back to Earth in a shielded capsule expected in 2023. From the analysis of Bennu’s material, the scientists hope to get insights into the formation of the Solar System.
